New garage door cost in Ocala: 2026 prices by door, rating and extras

A new two-car garage door in Marion County runs from about $1,400 for a plain steel door to $5,500 for a carriage-house door with windows, and $3,500 and up for an impact-rated door. Here is what each layer costs, what the permit and the wind rating add, and the honest answer on insulation in Florida.

Newly installed white carriage-house style insulated steel garage door with arched windows on a tan stucco one-story home in Ocala, Florida

Prices below are installed, with the old door and hardware hauled off, new torsion springs sized to the door, new weather seals, a balance and a safety-reverse test, for 2026 in Ocala and Marion County. Every door is wind-rated to the design pressure the permit requires for your opening, because the Florida Building Code doesn't allow anything else. The permit is its own line.

What moves the price

Construction. A single-layer door is one skin of steel; it dents, rattles and heats the garage. A three-layer door is a steel-foam-steel sandwich that's stiffer, quieter and warmer or cooler as needed. Insulation. Florida homes don't need R-18 for cold, but an insulated door keeps the garage ten or more degrees cooler in August, keeps a bedroom over the garage quieter, and resists dents from golf carts and bicycles; most of our customers choose it. Wind rating. The permit sets the design pressure for your opening based on the ultimate design wind speed for the address, the door size, the exposure (open lots in Reddick or Dunnellon are Exposure C and need more than a treed Ocala subdivision) and the roof height; a door rated for it costs a few hundred dollars more than a bare-minimum door would, and the minimum isn't legal here anyway. Impact rating. A door tested against flying debris under ASTM E1996 roughly doubles the price and is the strongest opening money can buy. Style and glass. Carriage-house hardware, windows and full-view glass are where the price climbs. The opener. If the existing opener has safety sensors and the right horsepower it can stay; if it's old, loud or lacks battery backup, doing both at once saves a trip.

What's in the price

Removal and disposal of the old door, track and hardware; the door with its Florida Product Approval; new torsion springs, drums and cables sized to the door; new rollers, hinges and the struts and brackets its wind rating calls for; weather seals; the install; balance and the safety-reverse test; the label and the paperwork for your insurance file. The permit and the inspection are shown separately because the City of Ocala and Marion County charge differently.

Money back

Garage doors are an eligible opening-protection improvement under My Safe Florida Home, which reimburses $2 for every $1 spent up to $10,000 on eligible homes after a program inspection, when the legislature funds it. A rated door can also earn an opening-protection credit on a wind mitigation inspection. See the hurricane guide.

Common questions

Is an insulated door worth it in Florida?

For most homes, yes: a cooler garage in summer, a quieter bedroom over it, a stiffer door that resists dents and runs quieter, for a few hundred dollars more on a two-car door. A detached garage used only for parking is the exception.

How long will I wait for the door?

Stock doors in common sizes and colors, a few days to a week. Custom colors, windows, carriage-house styles and impact-rated doors, two to six weeks. The install itself is a day.

Can I keep my opener?

If it has safety sensors (every opener since 1993), the horsepower for the new door's weight and works reliably, yes. We'll say so at the estimate.

What does the permit cost?

It depends on the jurisdiction and the job value; the City of Ocala and Marion County each set their own fee schedules. It's shown as its own line on the estimate.

Do I need the ARC's approval?

In The Villages, the SR 200 communities, Summerfield's gated communities and most newer subdivisions, yes, for style, color and windows. We submit before ordering.

Will a new door lower my insurance?

A door with a documented wind rating can earn an opening-protection credit on a wind mitigation inspection, depending on your carrier and what the other openings have. Ask your agent which rating they credit; we provide the label and approval number.
