One bent section doesn't always mean a whole new door
A car tap, a golf cart, a basketball hoop, a trash can left in the opening, a bottom section rusted through from the sprinklers: when one section is wrecked and the rest is fine, replacing the section is the right call, if the maker still makes it.
A sectional garage door is four or five horizontal sections hinged together, and each one can be replaced on its own, in principle. In practice it depends on whether the manufacturer still produces that model, profile and color. Doors from the big makers in the last fifteen years or so, including Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, CHI and Overhead Door, usually have sections available, often in a few days. Builder-grade doors from the 1990s and earlier, discontinued profiles and odd colors often don't, and a close-but-not-matching section looks worse than the dent. The technician identifies the door from its label or its hinge and roller pattern, checks availability, and prices the section against a new door so you can decide with both numbers.
The common cases in Ocala are a bottom section rusted through because the sprinklers hit the door every morning or the garage floor stays wet, a bottom or second section creased by a bumper or a golf cart, a top section cracked around the windows from heat and age, and a middle section buckled when the door was run while something sat under it. A creased section won't seal and will catch the track; a rusted bottom section takes the bottom bracket, the cable anchor and the seal with it, which is a safety problem rather than a cosmetic one.
Replacing a section is a controlled job: the spring tension is released, the door is supported, the hinges and rollers are moved from the old section to the new one (or replaced if rusted), the bottom bracket and seal go onto a new bottom section, the door is re-tensioned and balanced, and the opener's force setting is rechecked, since a new section changes the door's weight slightly. Where the original color has faded, we talk about painting the door in one go, which is the honest way to make a new white section match a twenty-year-old almond one.
What's included
Identified, then sourced
The door's make and model read from its label or hardware, the section's availability and lead time checked before you decide.
Both numbers
The section's price against a new door's, so a $700 section on a $1,900 door is a choice, not a surprise.
Bottom section done right
New bottom bracket, cable anchor and seal with a new bottom section, since those rust with it.
Re-tensioned and balanced
Spring tension released and reset, the door balanced by hand, the opener's force rechecked for the new weight.
Hardware checked
Hinges, rollers and struts moved over or replaced; a creased section usually bent a hinge too.
Color honesty
A new section matches a faded door only if the door is painted; we'll say so.

Questions we get about panel replacement
Can you replace just one panel?
Usually, if the manufacturer still makes that section. The technician identifies the door and checks. When two or more sections are damaged, or the door is discontinued, a new door is nearly always cheaper and better.
Will the new section match?
In profile and size, yes, if it's the right model. In color, only if the door hasn't faded much, which in Florida sun means a door under five or six years old. Otherwise we suggest painting the door.
My bottom panel is rusted at the edges. Is that urgent?
If the rust has reached the bottom bracket where the cable anchors, yes: that bracket holds the cable that holds the door. Have it looked at before a cable lets go.
A car backed into the door. Who pays?
Often the auto policy's property-damage coverage or the home policy, less the deductible. We give you a written estimate with photos either way.
Can a dent be pushed out?
A shallow dent in a thick-gauge door sometimes. A crease, never; the steel is stretched. A creased section needs replacing to seal and track properly.
How long does a section take to arrive?
Stock sections a few days, special colors or windows one to three weeks. The door is usually safe to run in the meantime unless the bottom bracket or a hinge is involved, and we'll tell you.
